8 Sarcastic Fringehead

The sarcastic fringehead grows up to 12 inches and though small and slender is an extremely aggressive fish which charges towards just about anything. The aggression is the reason it has been given the name ‘sarcastic’. The fringe head is the name given to the appendage over its eyes.

7 Purple Frog

The purple frog has been discovered only recently in the Western Ghats of India. It lives underground and resurfaces only for mating during the monsoon. It is the only surviving species of amphibians that evolved 130 million years ago.

6 Promachoteuthis Sulcus

A weird sounding name, the Promachoteuthis sulcus is also a recently discovered squid that lives deep in the ocean and sea depths. It has a razor sharp beak used to chop and devour its prey. With 8 arms and 2 tentacles, it is only one such specimen known to man. The only known specimen was caught by a German vessel ‘the Walter Herwig’ in 2007.

5 Flying Lemur

Although called flying lemurs, they cannot fly and neither are they actually lemurs. These creatures glide through trees with the help of a gliding membrane connecting their necks and the limbs to the toes and nails. Currently only two known species of flying lemurs exists on earth, one is the Philippine lemur and the other is the Sunda flying Lemur.
